What is OneTribe Really About?
Simply put, OneTribe is about connecting local people in war-impacted and/or divided societies with an understanding of Christ-centered peace. This kind of peace can transform every aspect of life. By way of radio and through our locally equipped leaders and teams on the ground, we do this with gospel-focused peace messaging, interactions, and actions. By God’s grace, such is helping change lives, relationships, and local communities.
“So then, let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.”
OneTribe serves in communities within Africa, primarily East and Central Africa, that have been impacted by civil war, mass violence, and genocide.
We’re a Christian peacebuilding organization. So, for us, this means we enter conflicted or post-conflict communities where we are invited, typically via local church networks. These networks are intently focused on reaching people and groups, many of them considered unreached with the gospel as they also work to strengthen local followers of Christ. To both of these, OneTribe is often asked to share our peace drama radio episodes on local radio stations. There are 52 of these episodes, one for each week of the year. As our program is broadcast by way of radio, we equip local radio presenters and managers to use the program interactively—and as a process. Trained presenters help engage the local listening communities.
Where OneTribe has a radio listenership, inevitably (or seemingly so!) listening groups arise! This means local people primarily in refugee camps and remote regions – but sometimes urban areas – gather together and listen to the OneTribe episodes. [Remember, our context is almost always communities that have suffered the atrocities of armed conflict or direct violence]. These participants want a new way of life. They are hungry for healing and wholeness — and ready to actively pursue the change they seek. As these groups form and indicate interest in peace training to local radio presenters and OneTribe networks, our trained leaders and pastors plan peace workshops that reach these communities. These teams carefully equip local people — and new leaders who continue facilitating peace groups and helping multiply them.

Because being able to care for ourselves and our families is central to a holistic peace, OneTribe offers local peace groups access to livelihood skills training through our Rejoice and Regenerate programs. Gaining these skills, coupled with a deepened understanding of Christ-centered peace and its intentional applications, changes local lives and relationships as people begin lifting themselves out of poverty and practicing peace as a way of life.
